Monkey See Monkey Do- Holographic Design!

Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge!

Polishes used:
Hi-Res- Milani
Black Satin- Rimmel
Fuchsia Power- Sally Hansen

So the Purple Curmpet Fairy challenges as of late are Monkey See Monkey Do Mondays. I recently aquired my first holographic polish and I knew I wanted to do something with it and I came across this image:
(I saved it from Google images days ago, but it seems to have disappeared and I can't find the original source!)

Here are more photos of my imitation:

A photo guided how-to:
Paint your nails the base colour (I chose a holo polish) and lay a piece of cut tape like to photo above.
Then seal the tape firmly onto your nail with no air bubbles along the edge.

Paint the second colour. Peel off the tape after 5-10 seconds. Voila!

Repeat the steps by taping over the second colour.

To be perfectly honest I like it a lot more with just the black, but I felt like I was cheating if I didn't copy the whole mani! Oh well.... I can always re-do it with different colours. ; )

Here is a bunch of other talented ladies participating:

Pastel Ruffles

Polishes used:

Penelope- Julep
Whirlwind White- Sally Hansen
Mermaid's Tears- OPI
Planks A Lot- OPI

I really thought this was going to turn into a major nail fail, polishes were coming out all streaky, but I LOVE the end result. The design was done with a small domed paint brush. (It is similar to the one I did a while ago here.
You start by painting your nails, then with the paint brush paint a tall line in the direct center of your nail and have each of the ones beside it slightly shorter. The polish doesn't have to go all the way to the tip either, just as long as the top is nice, the rest is going to be covered by the next colour.

Julep!

Not a super exciting post as a reader I guess, but nothing makes my day more then nail mail.
I love the attention to detail that Julep puts into shipping their products.

For readers who aren't familiar with Julep Maven you can read what it is all about here. Your first order will only cost you a penny! (I was skeptical too, but it really was just 1 cent!) Check around on my blog and you'll probably find the ad, the redemption code changes from time to time.

 Pretty!!!

Your personal preferences determine what goes in your box, I got polishes Portia (light blue glitter) and Penelope (light pink) and the most amazing smelling glycolic hand scrub.

Purple With White Tips

Polishes used:

Planks A Lot- OPI
White Konad stamping polish

Bundle Monster plate # 217

I haven't used much of the designs created for nail tips because I don't usually keep my nails long enough. I am attempting to grow them out a little bit (we'll see how long that lasts!) so here is a mani I did last week.

I only used half the image that was on the plate, you can see the full design below. (I thought it would look funny if my tip design was halfway up my nail bed...)

Zebra Pattern Over Black Sparkles

Polishes Used:
Black Satin- Rimmel
Some Like It Haute- China Glaze
White Konad stamping polish
Bundle Monster Plate #223

I've been wanting to try a stamp over a glittery polish for a while after seening some really pretty ones on other blogs. I started with two coats of Rimmel's Black Satin and one coat of China Glazes Some Like It Haute.

It turned out to be hard to photograph, there was much more multi-colour shimmer on the nail then what it seems from the photos. The the bottle photographed a little closer to what it really looks like.

I then stamped a zebra pattern (Bundle Monster #223) over top!

In the future I will choose a thinner stamp over top to really be able to see the shimmer from underneath, but I got a lot of nice compliments on this mani, so I think the combination is a winner. :)

Monkey See Monkey Do!

So this Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge was a great idea to say the least. The idea is "Monkey See Monkey Do." If you are anything like me, (or many other Pinterest users for that matter) you have hundreds of pins you've never gotten around to actually trying. So the idea here is to take the time to recreate a mani you have seen and loved.

I have chosen to recreate a manicure from the ever-so-talented Chloe of Chloe's Nails. (Her original manicure found here.)

She dubbed this manicure "Secret Periwinkle Gets Tattooed".

Here is a photo of her design:

And here is my recreation, with a few changes.

Polishes Used:
Green Tea- Sally Hansen
Blue It- Sally Hansen
Black Satin- Rimmel

I went a lot lighter with the base colour, I'm having a total addiction to minty green/teal colours right now.

Orange with Red and Black Tips

Polishes Used:

Make Mine Mango- Revlon
Burgundy Flirt- Rimmel
Black- Art Deco

So this manicure started by taping the tips with two reinforcement stickers to get a nice pointed curve with the red. (I REALLY loved this look.)

Steps:

1. Paint your nails and allow to dry completely.

2. Cut a reinforcement in half and stick it to the tip of your nail so that the point is in the middle of your nail bed.

3. Paint a thick coat of polish along the tip. Allow to dry for 10 seconds and gently peel off the reinforcement.

 Voila!

I then used a black art polish (the really long thin brushes) and tried to make it pop a little more.

I will probably try this one again with different colours.

Burgundy and Silver Tape Mani

Polishes Used:
I'm Fondue of You- OPI
Celeb City- Sally Hansen

These "explosion" manis are great. Really easy tape job.

Steps:

 1. Paint your nail a base colour and allow to dry. (Completely!)

2. Cut angular strips in scotch tape and stick them to the nail. (Really flatten out the tape to the nail, other wise the polish can seep in and you wont get a sharp looking line.)

Step 3.  Paint on your second colour and allow to dry for only about 10 seconds, then peel back the tape.

You can also add a third colour which I hope to post at some point. The effects of that are even cooler.

Yellow Butterfly Wing

Polishes Used:
Mellow Yellow- Sally Hansen
Black Out- Sally Hansen
Black Stamping Polish- Konad

Bundle Monster Plate #208

So this started off as just a simple tape manicure:

(It weirdly enough reminded me of Pikachu and that was embarrassing considering I think of myself as an adult....)

It was really eye-catching glossed up, but I'm hard to satisfy so I matted it too. :)

I got a lot of comments on this manicure, it was really cool and super simple and I will be trying more variations like this. Sort of reminded me of a butterfly wing.
